Podiatrists can treat children from a very young age. It’s even recommended to have your child’s feet examined as soon as they start walking to ensure proper development.
A pediatric podiatrist specializes in the foot health of young patients. They assess normal foot and gait development, diagnose and treat various issues such as flat feet, overlapping toes, or growing pains. They can prescribe custom orthotics, treat plantar warts and ingrown toenails, and advise on appropriate footwear choices. The podiatrist also monitors foot-related posture and provides treatments for sports injuries of the feet and ankles. By tailoring their care to the child’s age and working closely with parents, the podiatrist ensures the best possible development of the child’s feet.

No two foot surgeries are the same, and every patient reacts differently to surgery. Having said that, we generally ask our surgical patients to keep their feet off the ground for 2 weeks, followed by a gradual return to walking in sports shoes. Normal healing time is around 3 months. Swelling of the foot may be present for several months after surgery.
